     Crazy Horse Memorial

Near Mt. Rushmore, a statue of Crazy Horse, a hero for Native Americans, is being blasted from the hills. The project started in 1948 and it is still far from being finished.

Crazy Horse was born in 1840, near Rapid City, South Dakota. He was a Sioux Indian Chief.

Sioux fought against removal to reservations . In 1876 he joined with Cheyenne forces in a surprise attack against General George Crook; then he joined Chief Sitting Bull for the Battle of the Little Big Horn. After the Indian victory, the American army decided to get revenge. Sitting Bull went to Canada with his tribe and Crazy Horse stayed in South Dakota and he refused to move to a reservation in the Black Hills. But in 1877, he surrendered and he was eventually killed by American soldiers.
